Have you ever wondered why traditional African black soap is loved by so many people all over the world?
Black soap is an ancient African cleansing secret that has been used for centuries and is the key to ageless, healthy skin! It is the ultimate beauty buy for those wanting an affordable, natural cleanser that is effective for all skin types.
Locally known as Ghana Black Soap, Alata Samina, or Ose Dudu in Nigeria, this soap has been cherished and passed down from generation to generation thanks to its natural ingredients and powerful benefits for the skin.
Curious to learn how it’s made and what makes it so unique?
How to make African Black Soap
Black soap is handmade from carefully selected plant-based ingredients which are indigenous to the African continent including shea butter, neem oil, cocoa pods, and plantain skin.
The plant parts are collected, sun-dried, and roasted until they turn into ash. Then, different types of plant fats, such as shea butter, are added to it and stirred on the heat for 24 hours. Once it solidifies, the soap is cured for two weeks before it is ready for use.
Benefits of African Black Soap
Natural exfoliator
It is an effective but gentle exfoliant which helps to get rid of dead skin cells to achieve healthy and smooth skin.
Great for sensitive skin
Due to the absence of chemicals and dyes, African Black Soap is well-suited for sensitive skin and less likely to cause irritation.
Deep cleanser
It is an effective deep cleanser due to its natural antibacterial and anti fungal properties which prevents clogged pores, body odour and reduces breakouts.
Lasting Moisture
With the inclusivity of ingredients such as shea butter, African Black Soap helps to moisturise the skin while cleansing.
At R&R Skincare we offer Black Soap in its traditional form (as a soap bar) and also with our own modern twist - Liquid Black Soap. You can shop our Black Soap Collection here.
